General Description
About the Palace of Versailles
The Palace of Versailles is one of the most emblematic palace complexes in Europe and a symbol of the power of the French monarchy. Converted into a royal residence in the 17th century by Louis XIV, the so-called Sun King transformed a former hunting lodge into an imposing palace intended to showcase the splendor of the court. During the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI, Versailles was consolidated as the political and cultural center of France until the Revolution of 1789.
What to see during the visit
The visit allows you to tour the palace with an audioguide, discovering emblematic rooms such as the King’s Apartments and the famous Hall of Mirrors, the scene of historic events and an example of the artistic refinement of the French Baroque. The tour also includes free access to the extensive gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, where monumental fountains, classical sculptures and wide avenues reflect the close relationship between art, nature and royal power.
“Artistic beauty does not consist in representing a beautiful thing, but in the beautiful representation of a thing.”
Immanuel Kant
